Hundreds of bodies found in Mexican crematorium scandal

A scandal has emerged following a search of a crematorium operating in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez, near the U.S. border. Following an anonymous tip, local authorities discovered 383 bodies and various remains inside the facility. It was learned that the crematorium in question provided services to six funeral homes in the city.

Cesar Jauregui Moreno of the Chihuahua State Attorney General's Office announced that investigations revealed the bodies and remains had been at the facility for at least three to four years. Prosecutor Moreno stated that the number of bodies found suggests the crematorium had not been truly operational for a long time. "Everyone has a funeral ceremony here. But no one can know if these people had a hidden agenda," Moreno said.

According to reports in the national press, investigations revealed that while the crematorium held official permits, it had violated legal regulations. Following the incident, it was reported that the facility was shut down and its operations were completely halted. Authorities have detained the person operating the crematorium and one employee for questioning.

State Governor Maru Campos expressed her reaction in a statement regarding the incident, saying, "These are irresponsible and unscrupulous people who abused their licenses and permits."

Authorities continue to investigate why such a large number of bodies accumulated at the crematorium and whether there is any other situation behind the illegal activity.
