Illegal migration wave continues in Mexico
Hundreds of people continue to cross illegally from Mexico into the United States (US) in search of a better life.
Migration from the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez toward the border has further increased as the state of Texas prepares to tighten its immigration laws.
POLICE AUTHORIZED FOR DETENTION
The state of Texas has authorized police to detain migrants arriving from Mexico.
US President Joe Biden also backtracked last October on his policy of building a wall on the Mexican border, which he had vehemently opposed during his presidential campaign.
BIDEN'S 'WALL' PROMISE
As elections approach, the pressure on US President Biden is also mounting. In an effort to curb the rapidly increasing migration, it was announced that a section of the border wall approximately 32 km long would be built in southern Texas, where many illegal crossings occur.
During the term of Biden's Republican predecessor Donald Trump, more than 644 km of wall had been built on the border, while Biden had promised in 2020 that he would not build "a single meter more" of the wall if elected.
