Important statement from Russia regarding the 'Peace Summit' proposed by Ukraine: 'We are open to a diplomatic solution, but...'

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that they categorically reject the call for a peace summit made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The spokesperson claimed that Ukraine and the West have adopted a pro-war stance and announced that Russia will not participate in the peace summit.

Zelenskyy had mentioned during a press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that a second peace summit could be organized in November 2024, which would also include Russian representatives. 

However, Zakharova described this proposal as 'detached from reality' and 'delusional'. 

Zakharova, who described Zelenskyy's presidency as 'expired', characterized the peace initiatives as an effort by the West and Ukraine to exert pressure on Russia.

RUSSIA WILL NOT ATTEND THE PEACE SUMMIT

Recalling that Russia did not participate in the 2023 Bürgenstock process, Zakharova stated that they do not intend to be involved in such summits in the future either. 

Describing Ukraine's peace formula as inapplicable, Zakharova stated that Russia is 'open to finding political and diplomatic solutions' to the crisis, but that such a solution 'can only be achieved by taking Russia's interests into account'.

'WE WILL NOT ENGAGE IN DIALOGUE WITH TERRORISTS'

The Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson alleged that Ukraine and the West intend to continue the war. 

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' attacks on Russia's Kursk region and Zelenskyy's request for long-range weapons from NATO were cited by Zakharova as examples of this claim. 

Zakharova stated that Russia will not engage in dialogue with 'terrorists', expressing that Kyiv and the West prefer war over peace.
