Indirect Iran-US talks in Oman conclude

Indirect negotiations between Iran and the US regarding Iran's nuclear program have concluded in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Speaking to Iranian state television after the meetings, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that they had held several intensive and lengthy indirect discussions today. Araghchi stated, "After a turbulent 8-month period, the dialogue process has restarted. The biggest challenge is mistrust. Throughout the talks, our views and concerns were mutually conveyed. Furthermore, our rights and interests were raised in a very good atmosphere. Overall, it was a good start."

Reporters asked Araghchi whether security issues were addressed in the talks, noting that countries in the region are concerned about security due to the US military buildup in the area. Araghchi replied, "Of course, we emphasized that nuclear negotiations and the resolution of fundamental issues must be conducted in a calm environment, free from tension and threats. The basic condition for any kind of talk is to refrain from threats and pressure. We stated this clearly today as well. We expect this matter to be taken into account for the talks to continue."

The Iranian Foreign Minister also noted that the talks were limited solely to nuclear issues, stating that they had no contact with the US side regarding any other topics.

Commenting on the continuation of the talks, Araghchi said, "Talks will continue, but the continuation of the process depends on consultations to be held in the capitals. I do not want to make an early assessment, but if the talks continue in this manner, a framework for agreement could be reached."

Baghaei: "A decision will be made regarding the next round of talks"

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, in a statement on his social media account following the conclusion of the negotiations, said, "The negotiations held between Iran and the US in Muscat concluded with the parties agreeing to continue the talks. After expressing their views and demands, the parties agreed to make a decision regarding the next round of talks as a result of consultations to be held with their respective capitals."

Al-Busaidi: "The meeting was useful"

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, who hosted the meeting, also stated on his social media account following the contacts: "Very serious mediation talks were held between Iran and the US in Muscat. It was useful in terms of clarifying the thoughts of both Iran and America and identifying potential areas of progress. We aim to meet again at an appropriate time. The results will be carefully evaluated in Tehran and Washington."
