Individual selling 'suicide kits' to face trial in Canada

UP TO 14 YEARS IN PRISON REQUESTED

Kenneth Law, a 57-year-old resident of Canada, is facing 14 charges of "first-degree murder" and 14 charges of "counseling and aiding suicide." Prosecutors have increased the murder charges against Law, who has been linked to more than 100 deaths through the sale of "suicide kits" on online platforms.

Kenneth Law will appear in court regarding the deaths he is believed to be linked to and could face up to 14 years in prison. The Canadian Criminal Code punishes anyone who "counsels or aids" a person in committing suicide with up to 14 years in prison. The ages of the individuals whose deaths were caused range from 16 to 36.

CHARGES DENIED

The provincial attorney general announced the decision to bypass the preliminary inquiry for the suspect's trial and proceed directly to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice with an indictment.

Defense attorney Matthew Gourlay stated that his client will not plead guilty to the charges and plans to file a Rowbotham application, which is used to request government funding for legal representation when a defendant is deprived of legal aid.
