Intelligence reports released: US did not destroy facilities

US and Israeli intelligence have suggested that the strikes carried out by the US last week against Iran's nuclear facilities did not destroy sites that are critical to Iran's nuclear program. A preliminary assessment conducted by US intelligence stated that the strikes the US carried out last week against three nuclear facilities in Iran did not destroy the core elements of Iran's nuclear program and likely only caused the program to be set back by a few months.

In reports appearing in the US press, this assessment, which contradicts statements by US President Donald Trump that Iran's nuclear facilities were completely destroyed, was rejected by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Leavitt stated, "This so-called assessment is completely false."

"DID NOT COMPLETELY DESTROY"

In an assessment shared by Israeli intelligence, it was stated that the US strikes set Iran's nuclear program back by "a few years" but did not completely destroy it. A senior Israeli official, in a statement to the Israeli press, said that the US strikes were useful despite everything and that results were achieved that could not have been obtained through negotiations. The Israeli press also shared the assessment that the strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities would serve as a deterrent in terms of preventing Iran from attempting to enrich uranium again.

The US military had carried out strikes on Iran's Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities on June 22 using B-2 Spirit bombers.
