An interesting solution against the migration influx!
The United Kingdom is planning to offer thousands of pounds to social media influencers in countries of origin to announce new immigration laws and the risk of deportation to Rwanda, in an effort to prevent illegal migration.
According to a report by The Times, the UK government is aiming to pay social media influencers as a new strategy in the fight against illegal migration, in order to deter potential migrants from resorting to illegal routes. This plan contradicts the bans the government has imposed on social media usage, particularly due to security concerns regarding TikTok.
FIGHTING AGAINST HUMAN SMUGGLERS
In the face of human smugglers actively using social media platforms to attract migrants, the Home Office also views these platforms as a critical tool to reach and inform potential migrants. These efforts will be part of a large-scale advertising campaign that includes the implementation of the Rwanda policy.
COLLABORATION WITH INFLUENCERS
The government plans to collaborate with influencers who can reach young people in countries such as Albania, Iraq, Egypt, and Vietnam. These influencers include rappers, comedians, lifestyle bloggers, and TV celebrities. A total budget of approximately 30 thousand pounds has been allocated for the selected social media influencers to help them deliver their messages to young people more effectively.
IMPACT OF THE CAMPAIGN
This strategy aims to inform young people about the risks of traveling to the United Kingdom through illegal means. So far, the government's social media campaigns have reached 946 thousand people in Albania, with 231 thousand clicks recorded on the campaign website. The total cost of the campaign was announced as 380 thousand pounds.
This innovative approach could be a significant turning point in the UK's fight against illegal migration, taking awareness efforts to a new dimension by leveraging the power of social media.
