International Atomic Energy Agency: One of the auxiliary facilities at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine has been hit

An attack has been carried out on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. In a statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it was reported that one of the plant's auxiliary facilities was attacked today, with explosion sounds heard and smoke observed rising from the site.

The statement noted, "The IAEA team was informed that the facility was hit by artillery fire and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at approximately 09:00 local time. This coincided exactly with the time the team heard sounds of military activity. The auxiliary facility is located 1,200 meters from the site boundary of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and the IAEA team could still see smoke rising from that direction in the afternoon."

Stating that this incident is the latest in a series of events that have occurred in recent weeks and months, the statement included the expression, "It once again highlights the potential dangers to nuclear safety during the military conflict around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant."

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated, "Any attack in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant, regardless of the target, carries potential risks for nuclear safety and must be avoided. Once again, I call for maximum military restraint near nuclear facilities so that the risk of a nuclear accident can be prevented."
