In Spain, an investigation has been launched into Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez over allegations that he made campaign-style remarks during a press conference following a Council of Ministers meeting, thereby misusing public resources.
The Spanish Central Electoral Board (JEC) accepted the complaints filed by the main opposition People's Party (PP) and the Party of the Finished Party (SALF). The board decided to conduct an inquiry into Sanchez under the provisions of the General Electoral Regime Law.
The focus of the investigation will be whether the statements made by the prime minister following an official government activity constituted a campaign speech and whether public resources were utilized for this purpose.
According to reports in the Spanish press, if it is determined that Sanchez violated the law, he could face a fine ranging from 300 to 3,000 euros.
