US President Donald Trump has vehemently denied reports that his administration offered to ease sanctions on Iran in exchange for concessions regarding its nuclear program.
In a report based on unnamed senior officials, the US-based outlet Axios claimed that Washington had presented Tehran with a secret economic package. According to the claim, the package included the easing of economic sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian assets, provided that Iran took concrete and irreversible steps in its nuclear program.
The report stated that indirect contacts between the two countries were considered "positive and constructive"; however, it noted that a final agreement could not be reached until the nuclear file was resolved, and that disagreements persisted regarding the timeline for the initial steps to be taken by the parties.
Trump, in a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, denied the allegations in no uncertain terms.
"This is absolutely not true. I offered them nothing. The Axios report, like others of its kind, is a completely false story aimed only at feeding 'Trump Derangement Syndrome.' They should retract this fake news immediately!"

This denial has further fueled debates regarding the contacts said to be taking place behind closed doors between the US and Iran. It is stated that Washington remains insistent on its goal of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, while expecting concrete assurances from Tehran for a potential settlement.
