Iran denies claims of ceasefire extension with the US

Iran has denied claims that the ceasefire period with the US has been extended. A senior Iranian source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that no discussions have been held between the parties regarding an extension of the ceasefire.

It had been alleged that the US and Iran reached an agreement to extend the 60-day ceasefire, which was reported to expire on August 17 under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The Iranian source, however, stated that Tehran approaches the matter differently. According to the source, Iran holds the view that there is no situation to be "extended" because the agreement does not have a specific start date.
