Iran: Giant tanker hits sea mine in Strait of Hormuz

As tensions between the US and Iran continue, it has been reported that a giant oil tanker, which was allegedly attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz using an unauthorized route, struck a sea mine.

In a statement made by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), it was stated that a violent explosion occurred after the giant tanker, which was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz using a route described as dangerous, hit a sea mine.

The statement noted that the fate awaiting tankers that violate security rules and designated routes in the Strait of Hormuz is a "massive fire."

The statement did not provide any details regarding the name of the tanker, which country it belongs to, the status of the crew, or potential environmental impacts.

Reports in the Iranian press claimed that the tanker was proceeding with its navigation and positioning systems turned off. It was reported that a large-scale fire broke out on the ship following the explosion and that the flames could be seen from coastal areas.
