Iran: Negotiating delegation to travel to Switzerland to ensure compliance

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made a statement regarding the expected talks between the US and Iran in Switzerland.

Speaking to Iranian state television, Baghaei said that the negotiating delegation would travel to Switzerland shortly to ensure that the US is fulfilling its commitments under the memorandum of understanding signed between the parties.

Emphasizing that the US has failed to fulfill its commitments in the past, Baghaei stated, "The main purpose of this trip is to monitor the other side's fulfillment of its commitments.

Given our experience regarding the other side's failure to fulfill its commitments, we must naturally be very firm and serious in demanding the fulfillment of obligations during the implementation phase."

Addressing why the delegation did not travel to Switzerland for the signing ceremony planned for yesterday, Baghaei said the reason was that the memorandum of understanding between the parties had already been signed digitally by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Iranian spokesperson stated that, for this reason, the urgency for holding the meeting in question had disappeared.

On the other hand, emphasizing that today's visit is necessary, Baghaei said, "Negotiations for a final agreement can only begin after some articles of the agreement are put into practice. Unfortunately, we do not see such a situation at the moment. Therefore, during this visit and these meetings, we will pressure the other side to fulfill its commitments and will demand clarity on exactly how it plans to implement these commitments."

US Vice President James David Vance had noted that Trump's Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner were already in Switzerland and were working on the foundations of the meeting.
