Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that they have conveyed a special program to the US via Qatar regarding the return of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to normal.
Speaking at the 52nd Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, Araghchi said that security conditions must be met for transit through the strait to resume.
Regarding the proposal, Araghchi stated, "A special seven-day plan has been conveyed, and we said that if the necessary conditions are met, the Strait could be reopened within seven days and normal maritime traffic could resume."
MESSAGE ON MILITARY PRESSURE
Stating that security in maritime transport cannot be achieved through military pressure, Araghchi emphasized that past attacks and mistakes should not be repeated.
The Iranian minister assessed, "It cannot be expected that maritime security will return to normal by bombing a country, threatening to destroy it, and imposing a blockade."
While stating that Iran will continue to protect its sovereignty and the legitimate interests of its people, Araghchi said that his country's defense of its rights does not contradict its pursuit of peace. Expressing that they are aware of the devastating consequences of war, Araghchi stated that solidarity and communication among Islamic countries must continue.
In his speech, Araghchi also touched upon the conflicts between the Houthis in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, stating that the Tehran administration supports the independence and territorial integrity of both Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Arguing that crises in the region cannot be solved through military methods, Araghchi said that security must be ensured through the cooperation of regional countries.
