Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that Tehran has offered to mediate the resolution of the crisis between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen, but that they have not yet received a response from the Riyadh administration.
Speaking to the Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen television, Khatibzadeh made assessments regarding regional developments and the situation in Yemen. Describing the developments in Yemen as "worrying," Khatibzadeh stated that Iran is ready to step in to resolve the crisis through diplomatic means.
Khatibzadeh noted that they have spoken with Saudi officials and presented a proposal for Iran to act as a mediator, saying, "So far, Saudi Arabia has not yet responded to Iran's mediation offer regarding Yemen."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also stated during a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on October 12 that Tehran is ready to provide any support necessary for the resolution of the crisis between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
It was reported that during the call, Araghchi warned that attempting to resolve the crisis through military methods could increase regional tensions and called on the parties to engage in dialogue.
