Iran issues statement on Haniyeh assassination: 'Struck by a short-range missile'
New details have emerged regarding the assassination in Tehran that claimed the life of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. A statement from Iran said, "Haniyeh's room was struck from the outside by a short-range missile."
Iran has issued a statement regarding the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in an assassination carried out by Israel in Tehran.
In a statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, it was noted that Haniyeh was killed by a short-range missile carrying a 7-kilogram warhead, and that the missile was fired from outside the room, causing a massive explosion.
The statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps included the remark, "The Zionist regime carried out this terrorist act with the support of the criminal US administration."
It was stated that Tehran would take "the harshest revenge against Israel at the appropriate place and time, and by the appropriate means."
IRAN HAD DENIED THE NYT'S CLAIM
The New York Times newspaper had put forward the claim that Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian, was killed by a bomb planted in his room at the residence weeks earlier.
Iranian sources, however, rejected this claim, reporting that Haniyeh was killed by a missile or an air-launched projectile.
