Iranian Foreign Ministry issues statement on 'Mojtaba Khamenei is wounded'

Describing the US and Israeli attack as "shameful," Baghaei stated that the diplomatic process had been betrayed for the second time since June 2025, just as the 3rd round of nuclear negotiations held in Geneva, Switzerland, had been completed.

When asked "how is the condition of Iran's new leader Mojtaba Khamenei," Baghaei replied, "He is wounded but doing well. I do not know when he will make his first speech. There were 3 or 4 names for the leadership, but the majority of the Assembly of Experts chose him in accordance with the Constitution."

Recalling the attack on a girls' primary school in the Iranian city of Minab, Baghaei said, "They committed a massacre in Minab. They used two Tomahawk missiles. The goal was simply to ensure as many civilians died as possible. They killed about 170 innocent people, most of them children. We are pleased that (Italian Prime Minister) Giorgia Meloni condemned the attack."

Baghaei stated that they harbor no hostility toward neighboring countries, but that the US military presence in the region "leads to great insecurity."
