Iranian Leader Khamenei: 'The response to this catastrophe will be very harsh'

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, Iranian leader Khamenei issued a message regarding the terrorist attack in Kerman.

Khamenei stated, "The evil and criminal enemies of the Iranian people have once again created a tragedy, martyring many of our precious people in the fragrant atmosphere of the martyrs' graves in Kerman."

"THE RESPONSE TO THIS CATASTROPHE WILL BE VERY HARSH"

Stating that there will be no tolerance for the actions of the perpetrators, Khamenei said, "Both the hands stained with the blood of the innocent and the corrupt and depraved minds that led them into this error will be the definite target of pressure and just punishment from now on. Let them know that, with God's permission, the response to this catastrophe will be very harsh."

Khamenei expressed that he shares the pain of the grieving families, wishing them patience and offering his condolences, and wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded. While Iranian officials have declared the explosions to be a terrorist attack, no organization has claimed responsibility for the act in Kerman so far.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Two explosions occurred on the road leading to the cemetery in Kerman province, where a memorial ceremony was being held for the 4th anniversary of the death of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was killed in a US attack in Baghdad in January 2020.

It was initially stated that 103 people died in the explosions near the cemetery where Soleimani's grave is located, but official authorities later updated this number to 95 people. 211 people were also injured in the attack.
