Phone call between Iranian President Pezeshkian and Putin: Support for legitimate rights expected

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation. The discussion addressed recent regional developments following the attacks on Iran by the US and Israel. Stating that the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the US and Israeli attacks was contrary to international law, Pezeshkian said, "Hegemonic powers are trying to impose their will on nations through the blind and desperate use of force. However, the millions-strong and epic support of the Iranian people for their country and system has shown that these attacks have only further strengthened our nation's determination to defend the country's existence."

"They attacked us while claiming to negotiate"

Noting that they had previously drawn attention to the unreliability of the other side, Pezeshkian said, "In our previous meeting, you mentioned that Netanyahu claimed he had no intention of attacking Iran. However, everyone has seen today that lies and malice are part of their nature. They attacked us once again while claiming to negotiate. Russia is expected to use its international influence to support the legitimate rights of the Iranian people in the face of these attacks."

"Targeting US bases is for defensive purposes"

Touching upon diplomatic contacts with regional countries, Pezeshkian said, "In our meetings with our neighbors, we explained that the targeting of US military bases is purely for defensive purposes and aimed at protecting our country and our people. The recent attacks by the US and the Zionist regime have once again proven Tehran's point that regional security can only be ensured by regional countries and that the presence of foreign forces is the root cause of insecurity."

Denies Nakhchivan allegations

Categorically rejecting allegations that Iran carried out an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is part of Azerbaijan, Pezeshkian stated, "Iran has never had and will never have any intention of attacking its neighbors. Our path is to strongly defend our territorial integrity and ensure lasting peace."

Condolences from Putin

During the call, Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his condolences over the death of Khamenei and stated that they stand in solidarity with the Iranian state and people. Putin also touched upon his ongoing contacts with the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and drew attention to the importance of regional stability.

It was also reported that the two sides agreed to maintain coordination between Tehran and Moscow through diplomatic and security channels.
