Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made harsh accusations against the US and Israel in his speech at the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Pezeshkian addressed the world from the UN podium for the first time since the war, which he stated began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Beginning his speech by showing photographs of 168 children he said were killed in an elementary school in Minab on the first day of the war, Pezeshkian argued that civilians were targeted in the attacks.
They bombed a school, and do you see these children? These children had no fault. America killed them.
Stating that Iran is "only defending itself," Pezeshkian said his country cannot be portrayed as a terrorist state. The Iranian President used the words, "These are the terrorists. We only defended ourselves; we are not terrorists."
Claiming that the US has targeted schools, gymnasiums, and scientists with numerous warheads, Pezeshkian stated that attacks on hospitals, schools, universities, and health centers are contrary to international law.
Saying that Iran has responded to the attacks but has not targeted the civilian population, Pezeshkian said, "We did not kneel, we did not bow our heads." Touching on Palestine in his speech, the Iranian President used the expression, "Palestine is an open wound in the conscience of us all."
