Iranian President Raisi's statement on Gaza: 'Child killings must be stopped immediately'

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in the capital, Tehran.

During the meeting, regional issues and the Palestinian question were discussed alongside bilateral relations. Speaking at a joint press conference held after the meeting, Raisi said, "Both countries have the same position on the Palestinian issue. We believe that the bombardment, genocide, and child killings in Gaza must be stopped immediately and a ceasefire must be achieved." Addressing US aid to Israel, Raisi stated, "Unfortunately, the US is providing weapons, intelligence, and financial aid to the Zionist regime for its crimes and brutal acts against the Palestinian people. This aid further encourages this regime to kill the people of Gaza."

"'GENOCIDE' IS BEING CARRIED OUT WITH US SUPPORT"

Stating that the claim that the US is providing aid to Gaza is completely baseless, he said, "This claim does not align with the actions of the US. But in practice, we see that UN proposals are vetoed to strengthen the hand of the Zionist Israeli regime. We view these crimes as having been committed by the US and the regime's supporters, and we believe they are complicit in all war crimes." Raisi added, "Today, the Zionist regime, with the support of the Americans and some European countries, is carrying out a horrific crime against humanity: the massacre of children and genocide."

"THE ZIONIST REGIME HAS COLLAPSED"

Continuing his harsh criticism of Israel, Raisi said, "The truth is that the Zionist regime has collapsed following the defeat it suffered as a result of the struggle and resistance against it. The US is trying to keep Israel afloat. Right now, the whole world thinks that the Palestinian nation has won, and that the Israeli regime, which targets civilians, women, children, and homes, has lost. There is no compensation for the war crimes committed by the Zionist Israeli regime against humanity. We support every step to be taken at the level of Islamic countries, as well as regional and international countries, to prevent the Zionist regime and the US administration from massacring the innocent, oppressed, and strong people of Gaza."

"THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY HAS FAILED TO DO ITS PART"

Iraqi Prime Minister Sudani stated that they discussed the Palestinian issue with Iranian President Raisi and said that the Baghdad administration supports an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Sudani said, "We cannot attribute what is happening in Gaza today solely to October 7. The war crimes of the Israeli regime against Palestinians have been continuing for years."

Targeting the US, Sudani criticized Washington's calls for restraint, saying, "Those who will decide whether the war expands are those committing war crimes in Gaza. Those who do not want the war to grow must pressure the Zionist Israeli regime to stop its war crimes. As Iran and Iraq, we are in contact with countries that can be effective in stopping the attacks on Gaza. So far, the international community and international institutions have failed to do their part."
