Iranian press: Strait of Hormuz completely closed, oil tankers turned back
The Iranian press stated that the Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed to ship traffic and that some oil tankers have been turned back from the strait.
As tensions escalate in the Strait of Hormuz following Israel's attacks on Lebanon, it has been reported that the strait has been completely closed to ship traffic and that some oil tankers have been turned back.
According to reports in the Iranian press, the oil tanker "AURORA," which was heading toward the exit of the Strait of Hormuz, suddenly changed its course near the coast of the Musandam Peninsula, which belongs to Oman, making a 180-degree turn and heading back into the interior of the Persian Gulf.
Course change at a critical point
The report noted that the ship's course change occurred in the narrow passage between Iran's Larak Island and the Musandam Peninsula, one of the most sensitive regions for international maritime transport, which holds strategic importance due to its heavy energy traffic.
The report also stated that 180-degree turns made by ships in and around the Strait of Hormuz generally occur due to operational reasons, administrative decisions, or in accordance with instructions from supervisory authorities and Iranian naval patrol units.
On the other hand, the report stated that according to maritime traffic monitoring data, only a few oil tankers belonging to Iran and China were observed to be navigating in the Strait of Hormuz.
