Iraq closes border with Syria

Deputy Commander of Iraq's Joint Operations Command, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, announced that the Iraq-Syria border has been closed following the clashes in Syria.

Iraq closes border with Syria

As clashes continue in Syria between the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which opposes Bashar al-Assad, and regime forces, Iraq is increasing its border security.

In a statement, Deputy Commander of Iraq's Joint Operations Command, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, said that the Iraq-Syria border is completely closed. Al-Muhammadawi stated that Iraqi security forces are fully equipped and prepared to ensure the country's security.

SECURITY MEETING HELD

Iraqi Defense Minister Thabit Muhammad al-Abbasi held a meeting with the West Nineveh Operations Command in Sinjar following the developments in Syria.

According to the statement made by the ministry, al-Abbasi discussed the effects of security developments in Syria on Iraq and the security of the Iraq-Syria border during the meeting. After the meeting, Minister al-Abbasi inspected the measures taken along the border line and received information about security measures and the preparations of Iraqi forces.

On the other hand, local Iraqi sources also reported that reinforcement troops were dispatched to the Sinjar district of Mosul to ensure security on the Syrian border.
