Iraq: US attacks are a violation of national sovereignty
The Iraqi administration has stated that the US attacks in the west of the country constitute a violation of national sovereignty.
Iraqi Military Spokesperson for the Prime Minister, Major General Yahya Rasool, stated in a written declaration that the Al-Qaim region in Anbar and border areas in western Iraq were subjected to attacks by US aircraft, saying, "These attacks occurred at a time when Iraq is striving to ensure stability in the region. This constitutes a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and undermines the efforts of the Iraqi government."
Pointing out that these US attacks pose a threat that drags Iraq and the region into undesirable consequences, Rasool noted that the repercussions would be dire for the security and stability of Iraq and the region.
It had been reported that an arms depot belonging to the Shiite militia group Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) was hit in the US attack in western Iraq.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) had announced that it conducted airstrikes against targets belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for the base attack.
85 TARGETS HIT
In a written statement issued by CENTCOM, it was reported that at least 85 targets belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force and affiliated militia groups were struck in Syria and Iraq via airstrikes.
The statement indicated that long-range bombers dispatched from the US participated in the attacks and that more than 125 precision munitions were used, noting that command and control centers, rockets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles were hit in the targeted areas.
In the attack on the US base known as Tower 22, 3 American soldiers were killed and more than 40 soldiers were wounded.
The US administration had announced that it would carry out multi-layered and sustained attacks in response to the aforementioned attack and that Iran-backed groups would be targeted.
