Iraqi Army ends PKK control in Sinjar

The Iraqi army has announced that it has established full control in the Sinjar district of Mosul province and has increased security in areas extending to the Syrian border. Major General Ali Fazil Imran, Commander of the Mosul West Operations, stated that Iraqi forces have secured control in border regions such as Jazirat al-Ba'aj and Jazirat al-Hadr in and around Sinjar.

Imran announced that the Iraqi army, police, border guards, and Popular Mobilization Forces have established full dominance over an area of 265 square kilometers within the borders of Mosul province. He emphasized that the security situation in Sinjar has improved significantly, allowing more than 11 thousand families to return to the region.

It is noted that the terrorist organization PKK settled in Sinjar following operations carried out with the support of US-led coalition forces in 2015. However, due to the failure to establish stability in the district, thousands of families continue to live in the camps to which they had migrated.
