Iraqi Government Spokesperson Al-Awadi: 2,000 Syrian soldiers have taken refuge in Iraq

While diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria continue unabated, the advance of groups opposed to Bashar al-Assad cannot be stopped.

Iraqi Government Spokesperson Bassem al-Awadi announced in a statement that approximately 2,000 Syrian soldiers have taken refuge in Iraq.

Al-Awadi stated that these soldiers entered the country with the approval of the Iraqi government.

FİDAN AND HUSSEIN MEETING

According to a statement made by the Press Office of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the meeting between Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Minister Hussein warned that the ongoing tension in Syria could lead to "serious consequences and a migration crisis."

Stating that the continuation of armed conflict in Syria would further exacerbate humanitarian crises and waves of migration, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hussein warned that this situation would negatively affect the entire region. Expressing their concern over the deepening humanitarian tragedy experienced by the Syrian people, both sides emphasized that international efforts must be increased to alleviate this suffering.

Agreeing on the importance of a comprehensive political solution that will protect Syria's territorial integrity and independence, as well as sustainable stability, Fidan and Hussein noted that steps must be taken to improve cooperation between Baghdad and Ankara and to increase coordination with regional and international actors regarding Syria.
