Ireland announces it will recognize the State of Palestine: Sets a date

Ireland has announced that it will recognize the Palestinian state before the end of May, as previously stated.

Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin stated in an interview on the Newstalk radio channel, "We will recognize the Palestinian state before the end of this month."

According to Reuters, Martin noted that the exact date has not yet been finalized as discussions are ongoing regarding recognizing the Palestinian state in coordination with other countries.

European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell had previously stated that European countries, including Spain and Ireland, would recognize the Palestinian state on May 21.

Since 1988, 139 out of 193 United Nations (UN) member states have recognized the State of Palestine.
