Israel and Egypt reach agreement on Gaza
Reports in the Israeli press state that Israel and Egypt have reached an agreement to reopen the Rafah Border Crossing, which has been closed since May 7, for the passage of humanitarian aid.
Since Israel took control of the Gaza Strip side of the Rafah Border Crossing on May 7, humanitarian aid has been blocked from entering Gaza; however, reports in the Israeli press indicate that Israel and Egypt have reached an agreement to reopen the Rafah Border Crossing for the passage of humanitarian aid.
According to reports stating that Israel and Egypt reached the agreement as a result of pressure from the US on both sides, Israel, which has agreed to withdraw its troops to allow the reopening of the Rafah Border Crossing, will transfer the management of the border gate to an international organization.
The reports, which state that it is not yet clear which international organization will manage the border crossing, indicate that Israel has agreed to temporarily allow the border gate to be controlled by Palestinians in Gaza who have been proven to have no ties to Hamas or other groups.
