The U.S. Department of State's statement further noted that the "productive discussions" between Israel and Syria were made possible by the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump. The two-day negotiations in Paris were attended by the U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria.

The discussions focused on establishing a framework for regional stability and security cooperation. Tom Barrack presided.

The negotiations had been suspended due to significant disagreements between the parties and also because Israel's chief negotiator Ron Dermer had resigned.

Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Shaibani, led the Syrian delegation. The Israeli side was represented by a negotiating team led by Ambassador to Washington Yechiel Leiter .
