Israel blocks humanitarian aid: Famine threat in Gaza! Newborns' lives at risk

Holding a press conference in Gaza, Hazım Heniyye, an official from the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Gaza, expressed that humanitarian conditions in the region have deteriorated due to Israel's blockade. Criticizing Israel for blocking the entry of humanitarian aid trucks, Heniyye called for the border crossings to be opened.

Heniyye stated that the closure of border crossings has led to a critical decline in food supplies in Gaza, noting that the inability to deliver aid to the region has created a risk of widespread famine. Heniyye emphasized that power outages, the lack of fuel to operate alternative generators, and the shortage of resuscitation equipment are also threatening the lives of newborn babies in incubators.

Stating that 80 percent of hospitals operating in the Gaza Strip are unable to provide services due to fuel and medical supply shortages, and that critical surgeries are being disrupted, Heniyye announced that 25,000 patients and wounded individuals, including 10,000 cancer patients, are facing death due to the interruption of access to treatment.

Israel announced that it would block the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip starting March 2, following the conclusion of the 42-day first phase of the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement reached with Hamas. While it was stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened following the decision, Gazans reiterated their calls for the blockade to be ended.
