Detention decision from Israel: 175 people detained during intervention against Global Sumud Flotilla to be handed over to Greece

A new statement has been released regarding the intervention in international waters against the Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail with 345 activists to deliver humanitarian aid from Israel to the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that the 175 people detained during the intervention against the flotilla will be handed over to Greece.

Saar, who had previously claimed in statements that the detained individuals would be brought to Israel, said, "In accordance with the agreement reached with the Greek government, the civilians will be transferred from the flotilla's ships to an Israeli vessel and will be transported to the Greek coast within the next few hours."

This development comes at a time when Israel's nighttime intervention against the flotilla has faced intense criticism from the international community.

There are also Turks on the flotilla

In a statement made by the Global Sumud Flotilla, it was reported that the Israeli Navy intervened against at least 22 of the 58 boats carrying 345 activists in international waters off the coast of Crete, Greece. In a post shared by the Global Sumud Flotilla Turkey account, it was stated that 20 of the activists detained by Israel were Turkish. The post stated, "Civilians are being detained in international waters. This is unacceptable." It was also reported that there were 15 Turks on the boats continuing their journey toward Gaza.

Set sail to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which first set sail from Barcelona, Spain, on April 12 to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, reached the island of Sicily, Italy, on April 23. The flotilla set sail into the Mediterranean on April 26 with the boats that joined the "Spring Mission" from there and headed toward Gaza.
