Israel orders 200 Palestinians to 'demolish your own homes'
According to a report by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, information was provided regarding demolition orders sent by Israeli authorities to 200 Palestinian families living in the Old City, where the Al-Aqsa Mosque is also located.
It was reported that the notices sent to the Palestinians included information stating that some houses would be completely demolished while others would be partially demolished, and that different timeframes were granted for the demolition of the houses in question.
It was stated that the Palestinians were ordered to demolish their own homes, and that if they failed to do so, the houses would be demolished by Israeli authorities and heavy fines would be imposed.
DEMOLITIONS IN EAST JERUSALEM
Israeli authorities, who create difficulties for Palestinians regarding building permits in occupied East Jerusalem and reject nearly all applications made, threaten to demolish thousands of Palestinian-owned homes on the grounds that they are "unlicensed."
Palestinian sources state that more than 5 thousand homes belonging to Palestinians have been demolished by Israeli forces in East Jerusalem since 1967.
Emphasizing that this practice by the Israeli-affiliated municipality has no legal basis, Palestinians view it as "part of Israel's policy of intimidation and Judaization of the city."
The Israeli municipality often collects the demolition costs from the individuals whose homes are demolished.
