Israel rejects US and French ceasefire proposal for Lebanon: Will a ground war begin?

Israel has carried out intense airstrikes on Lebanon and attacked several high-ranking Hezbollah commanders. This situation has raised concerns that Israel will launch a ground operation that could lead to a wider war in the region. The ceasefire proposal prepared by the US and France to de-escalate tensions was rejected by Israel.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on X, 'There will be no ceasefire in the north.' 

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati had expressed his hope for a swift ceasefire during his speech at the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

The airstrikes followed attacks last week across Lebanon where pagers and walkie-talkies exploded, killing many people and injuring thousands, including Hezbollah members.

Israel's 7th Armored Brigade has begun conducting exercises a few kilometers from the Lebanese border. The brigade is working on military maneuvers that Israel would employ in a potential ground offensive into Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has bombed numerous areas in Lebanon, including Beirut. 

Katz also stated the following:

'We will continue to fight against the Hezbollah terrorist organization with all our might until victory and until the residents of the north (referring to Israelis who have left their homes in the north due to Hezbollah rockets) can return to their homes safely.'
