Israel shuts the door on negotiations: Decision to send delegation rejected

The Israeli news platform Walla reported on developments regarding the negotiations for a new hostage exchange agreement between Hamas and Tel Aviv.

DID NOT APPROVE SENDING A DELEGATION

The report stated that mediators Egypt and Qatar proposed additional talks to achieve progress in the negotiations for a new hostage swap, but Netanyahu did not approve the departure of a delegation from Tel Aviv to the negotiations in Cairo.

It was noted that the Israeli Prime Minister believes there is no need for new negotiations until Hamas "softens" its stance on the hostage exchange.

In the report, which cited unnamed sources, it was stated that one of the primary issues on which the parties have not reached an agreement is the number of Palestinian prisoners Hamas wants released in exchange for Israeli hostages.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

A delegation including David Barnea, head of the Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad, Ronen Bar, director of the internal security agency Shin Bet (Shabak), and Nitzan Alon, the official responsible for the file of kidnapped and missing persons in the Israeli army, had gone to Cairo on Tuesday to participate in the negotiations.

The New York Times wrote that the indirect talks held yesterday in Cairo, which yielded no results, would be continued for 3 more days by lower-level officials.

The talks, which lower-level officials were to attend, were planned to be held in Cairo tomorrow.
