'Israel' tension between Hezbollah and the RoC: 'It means being part of the war'

Speaking at a memorial ceremony held on Wednesday for Hezbollah commander Taleb Sami Abdallah, who was killed in an Israeli strike, Nasrallah said that if Israel uses Cyprus to its advantage in any war, the RoC could become a target.

The RoC and Israel have a joint defense cooperation agreement. In line with this, the two have conducted joint military exercises. 

'AS IF IT WERE PART OF THE WAR...'

The Hezbollah leader said, "Opening Cypriot airports and bases to Israel to strike Hezbollah means that the Cypriot government is part of the war. The resistance will deal with it as if it were part of the war." 

According to the report compiled by T24; RoC President Nikos Christodoulides stated following these remarks, "Cyprus is not a party to any military conflict and positions itself as part of the solution rather than the problem." 

'SUCH STATEMENTS ARE NOT WELCOME'

In his speech at the University of Cyprus graduation ceremony, Christodoulides emphasized that the RoC, as the easternmost member of the European Union, has established a maritime corridor to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, adding, "This corridor is proof of our commitment to peace and stability." 

Regarding Nasrallah's statements, the RoC leader said, "Such statements are not welcome. They do not reflect the truth either. Cyprus is not involved in any military engagement." 

Christodoulides stated that the threat would be addressed through diplomatic channels. 

Nasrallah's remarks came after Israeli generals announced on Tuesday that they had approved a plan for a more comprehensive offensive against Hezbollah. Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz also stated that they were on the verge of deciding whether to expand the war. 

At the memorial ceremony on Wednesday, Nasrallah said, "We have more than 100,000 fighters. We are prepared for the worst-case scenario, and Israel knows this."
