Israel's war cabinet to meet: Ceasefire and hostage exchange proposals to be discussed
It has been reported that Israel's war cabinet will receive briefings from the directors of the foreign intelligence agency Mossad and the internal security agency Shin Bet (Shabak) regarding the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement proposal currently being negotiated between the parties.
According to a report by Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel's war cabinet will meet this evening at 8:00 PM local time to discuss the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement proposal negotiated in Paris between the US, Qatar, Egypt, and Israel.
PROPOSALS TO BE PRESENTED TO THE CABINET
Mossad Director David Barnea and Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar will present the draft of the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement to the war cabinet, following discussions in Paris with US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Bill Burns, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel.
According to a report by The Times of Israel, Israeli officials did not deny that there is a draft for a potential hostage exchange agreement between the parties, but stated that "there is still a long way to go."
ISRAEL REMAINS OPPOSED TO A PERMANENT CEASEFIRE
It was reported that Israel informed its counterparts in the negotiations that it is "flexible" regarding the duration of the ceasefire, the number of hostages to be exchanged, and the amount of humanitarian aid to be sent to Gaza, where a humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding, but that it "does not accept a permanent end to the war."
It was also reported that the parties will discuss the draft agreement with Hamas as well.
Under the hostage exchange that began on November 24, 2023, and lasted for one week between Israel and Hamas, 81 Israeli and 240 Palestinian prisoners were released. There are still 136 Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
