Israeli army seizes Rafah Border Crossing
The Israeli army announced in a statement that it has seized the Rafah Border Crossing.
Rejecting Hamas's ceasefire proposal and launching attacks on the city of Rafah, Israel has seized the Gaza side of the border crossing that connects Palestine to Egypt.
In a statement made by the Israeli army, it was stated that control of the Rafah Border Crossing, which connects Gaza to Egypt, was seized during attacks in which the 162nd Division and the 401st Armored Brigade provided support to army units in the east of Rafah.
Al-Aqsa TV, known for its proximity to Hamas, had reported that the Israeli army was conducting intense shelling on the Palestinian side of the Rafah Border Crossing.
Eyewitnesses had also reported that Israeli warplanes were carrying out attacks on areas near the Rafah Border Crossing.
WHAT HAPPENED?
During the ongoing ceasefire negotiations in Qatar and Egypt, Hamas Movement Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh had announced that they had approved the agreement.
Immediately afterward, the Israeli War Cabinet had decided to continue the attacks in Rafah.
In a statement on May 6, the Israeli army had demanded the evacuation of certain neighborhoods in the east of Rafah, where forcibly displaced Palestinians had taken refuge.
