Israel’s far-right Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir has announced that if the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approves a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, his party, Otzma Yehudit, a junior partner in the ruling coalition, will withdraw from the coalition.
While Israel has not yet approved the agreement with days remaining until a potential ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has issued a statement expressing his opposition to the deal.
Ben-Gvir stated that if the Benjamin Netanyahu government approves the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, his party, Otzma Yehudit, will leave the coalition.
OPPOSED TO THE RELEASE OF PALESTINIAN PRISONERS
Ben-Gvir argued that the release of Palestinian prisoners, who would be freed under the agreement, poses a threat to Israel, and claimed that the deal does not immediately ensure the release of all hostages held in Gaza.
Ben-Gvir said that if the government continues its attacks after the ceasefire, his party would offer to rejoin the government.
Ben-Gvir had previously called on far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to resign in protest of the agreement.
