Israeli Foreign Minister on ceasefire with Hezbollah: 'Under US mediation...'
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that "certain progress" has been made in negotiations for a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon under US mediation.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met with foreign press members in West Jerusalem and made important statements regarding the current agenda.
Responding to questions about the process of achieving a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon, Saar stated that "certain progress" has been made on this issue. The Israeli minister noted that attacks against Hezbollah are continuing, but that they are working with the US to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon.
'INDEPENDENT PALESTINE IS NOT REALISTIC'
Saar argued that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is "not realistic" and stated that Israel will end its attacks in the Gaza Strip once its goals are achieved.
He added that Palestinians displaced in northern Gaza could return to the region after the Israeli attacks end. Regarding the annexation of parts of the West Bank, he stated that no decision has been made.
EMPHASIS ON 'NUCLEAR THREAT' IN THE MIDDLE EAST
The Israeli Foreign Minister pointed to the possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons as the greatest threat to the future of the Middle East.
Stating that their priority in this regard is to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Saar pointed out that US President-elect Donald Trump is also sensitive to this issue. Another development highlighted in the Israeli press was that Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer is visiting the US as part of ceasefire talks with Hezbollah in Lebanon and is planning to meet with Trump.
