Israeli military: Nasrallah's successor killed

The Israeli military has claimed that Hashem Safieddine, the deputy secretary-general of Hezbollah and seen as the successor to Hassan Nasrallah, has been killed.

Israel's attacks on Lebanon continue. In a statement issued by the Israeli military, it was claimed that Hashem Safieddine, the deputy secretary-general of Hezbollah and seen as the successor to Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an airstrike on October 4 in Dahiyeh, located in the south of the capital, Beirut.

The statement also reported that Hussein Ali Hazima, the head of Hezbollah's intelligence unit, was killed in the same attack, and stated that more than 25 Hezbollah members, including senior commanders, were present at the headquarters during the strike.

While Hezbollah has not yet determined who will replace Nasrallah, Safieddine's name had been prominent for the position of Secretary-General.

The Israeli press had reported that Safieddine was targeted in an airstrike carried out by the Israeli military on the night of October 3 in the south of Beirut.

Hezbollah has not yet made a statement regarding Safieddine. Following the killing of Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike in Dahiyeh on September 27, Hashem Safieddine's name had emerged as a frontrunner for the leadership.

Hezbollah has not yet issued a statement regarding the Israeli military's claim.
