Israeli minister targets British Foreign Secretary over potential recognition of Palestine
Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli has reacted to British Foreign Secretary David Cameron following comments that the London government could recognize a Palestinian state.
In a post on his X social media account, Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli compared David Cameron—who stated that his country could recognize Palestine after a ceasefire is reached in Gaza and the Hamas presence in the region is ended—to Neville Chamberlain, who served as British Prime Minister from 1937 to 1940 and adopted a policy of appeasement toward Nazi Germany before World War II.
Chikli shared a photo of former Prime Minister Chamberlain holding a copy of the Munich Agreement he signed with Nazi Germany in 1938 alongside a similar pose of Cameron.
Referring to the statement Chamberlain made in London after the Munich Agreement, which stipulated that a region of Czechoslovakia be ceded to Nazi Germany, Chikli wrote: "Greetings to David Cameron, who wants to bring 'Peace for our time' and wants to give a gift in the form of a Palestinian state to the Nazis who carried out the October 7 atrocities."
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said during a diplomatic visit to Lebanon today that after a ceasefire is reached in Gaza and the Hamas presence in the region is ended, his country could recognize a Palestinian state without waiting for the conclusion of a two-state solution.
Stating that there may be no need to wait for the conclusion of a two-state solution for the UK to recognize a Palestinian state, Cameron said, "As that process (toward a two-state solution) becomes more real, as it becomes more of a reality, we can look at that (recognizing Palestine)."
