Israeli minister threatens Palestine

Itamar Ben-Gvir, a far-right figure in the Israeli government, stated in a post on the social media platform X that he would call on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take action to topple the Palestinian Authority.

Ben-Gvir argued that this step would be a response against the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In an interview with Israel's state broadcaster KAN, Ben-Gvir claimed that the plan for the occupation of Gaza and the displacement of more than one million Palestinians was approved thanks to the pressure he exerted on Netanyahu. He also expressed his support for the annexation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and the establishment of Jewish settlements there.

As the humanitarian crisis in the region deepens due to Israel's attacks on Gaza and the blockade it has imposed, the Tel Aviv administration is facing international pressure. Nine United Nations member states have decided to recognize the State of Palestine since October 7, 2023. The UK, France, Canada, and Malta have also announced that they will recognize Palestine as an independent state at the UN General Assembly to be held in September.

Since Palestine declared its independence on November 15, 1988, it has been recognized by 147 of the 193 UN member states.
