Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented US President Donald Trump with a gift of the pagers that made headlines following the attacks on Hezbollah on September 17, 2024. The Israeli leader gave Trump one gold-plated and one standard pager.
Following the gift, the two leaders moved to the Oval Office to make statements to the press. Netanyahu emphasized the importance of his cooperation with Trump, while Trump reiterated his support for Israel's security.
When Netanyahu gave him the pager at the end of the meeting, Trump responded to the gift by saying, 'It was a great operation.'
On September 17, 2024, Israel carried out a major operation by detonating pagers belonging to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Approximately 3,000 Hezbollah members were injured in the explosions, and dozens lost their lives. Footage reflected on social media showed the moments the pagers exploded while in the hands of their owners.
On September 18, walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members were detonated in a similar manner; hundreds were injured and dozens died in that attack as well. Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for these operations.
