Israel's decision on the Rafah Border Crossing

According to reports from the Israeli state broadcaster KAN, the Israeli government has decided to lift the sanctions that were planned to be imposed on Hamas today.

According to information obtained, the political leadership in Israel has approved the opening of the Rafah Border Crossing, which connects Gaza to Egypt, as planned today, and for humanitarian aid crossings to continue in accordance with the agreement.

Sources stated that Hamas's delivery of 4 more bodies of deceased Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip during the night, and the fact that some more remains are to be delivered today, played a decisive role in Israel's decision to lift the sanctions.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Despite the ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas, Israel had announced last Wednesday that it would not open the Rafah Border Crossing, which provides passage to the Gaza Strip via Egypt.

The Israeli administration had cited the delay in the delivery of all the bodies of deceased Israeli hostages held by Hamas as the reason for this decision.

However, Hamas delivered the bodies of 4 more Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip to the Red Cross during the night as part of the hostage exchange. Thus, within the scope of the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement, Hamas has delivered 8 of the 28 deceased hostages in Gaza.

It had been stated that due to the destruction caused by Israel's attacks and occupation in Gaza over two years, it was difficult for Hamas to locate all the bodies, and this situation had been accepted by the parties in the ceasefire agreement.

In this context, it was decided to establish a committee consisting of representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, and the US to ensure the recovery of the bodies of the deceased Israeli hostages in Gaza.
