Israel's far-right Minister Ben-Gvir orders seizure of mosque loudspeakers

According to a report by Israel's Channel 12 television, Ben-Gvir issued an order to seize loudspeakers in mosques located in cities where Arabs and Jews live together, claiming they "disturb the local population."

Condemned by Arab members of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset), Ben-Gvir's order was described as an "effort to ignite a religious war."

In a statement regarding the matter on his X account, Ben-Gvir said, "I am proud to lead a policy aimed at reducing the unreasonable noise coming from mosque loudspeakers that disturbs the Israeli public."

Stating that Western countries and some Arab nations have placed restrictions on the call to prayer, Ben-Gvir claimed that the sound of the call to prayer from loudspeakers "cannot come at the expense of the quality of life of the region's residents."

Palestinian-origin Israeli Member of Parliament Ahmed Tibi reacted by saying, "Ben-Gvir is attempting to ignite a religious war by using the atmosphere of war (Israel's attacks) to please his voters, suppress the Arab community, and persecute Arab citizens."
