Israel's occupation in Syria continues

Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, the Israeli army, which has increased its military activities in Syria, has reportedly violated the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. Expanding its military deployments into the buffer zone that is required to be neutral under the agreement, Israel has established new points in the southern Damascus countryside, as well as in the Daraa and Quneitra provinces.

It was stated that the Israeli army, which had established 10 military points between December 8, 2024, and July, has increased this number to 19 in the last three months. It was noted that Israel carried out these new deployments in areas close to strategic hills and road intersections where it can closely monitor activity in the region.

MILITARY SETTLEMENT IN QUNEITRA AND DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE

It was observed that radar, camera systems, and heavy machinery were being used at the military points established by the Israeli army in the Quneitra region. At the same time, it was reported that significant destruction has occurred in forested and agricultural areas.

It was stated that the majority of the military points in the region are located at the foothills of the Golan Heights and in the neutral buffer zone. It was reported that the bases built, particularly in the Quneitra countryside, are positioned in a way that is suitable for observing military and civilian movement within Syria.

The military point located in the village of Tlul Humr is the closest position to the capital, Damascus. In addition to this point, which is approximately 40 kilometers away, it was reported that Israel has built its largest military deployment in the region in the village of Jibata al-Khashab.

It was announced that the Israeli army, which has established mobile bases at the East Jabal al-Sheikh observation point and the village of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, has created a total of 5 military points in the Daraa regions of Al-Shajara, Maariya, Abidin, and Al-Jazeera. In Quneitra, it was determined that there are 14 separate deployments, including Jibata al-Khashab, Qirs Naqil, Al-Qahtaniyah, East Kawdana, West Kawdana, Tlul al-Humr, Al-Hamidiyah, Mantara Dam, Al-Himriyah, Agriculture Tower, Old Quneitra, Quneitra Tower, Al-Adnaniyah, and Ruwayhiyah Dam.

ISRAELI ARMY CROSSES BUFFER ZONE

It was reported that in the last two weeks, the Israeli army has advanced to the red demarcation line on the Syrian side and has intensified its raids, detentions, and search-and-sweep operations. It was noted that military presence has increased, particularly along the line of Hadar, Jibata, Al-Khashab, Ofaniya, and Ruwayhina in Quneitra, and that hundreds of acres of land and forested areas have been destroyed with heavy machinery.

While civilians expressed that they have lost their livelihoods and security, it was reported that intense fear and panic have been experienced in the villages in the region following the raids.

“OUR CHILDREN ARE CRYING FROM FEAR”

Ruba Dawwara from the village of Jibata al-Khashab stated that their lives have turned into a nightmare due to the increasing raids, saying, “Our children are crying from fear. They are even throwing a four-year-old child to the ground.” Stating that the Israeli army raided the village with tanks and that hundreds of soldiers entered the village, Dawwara demanded peace and tranquility.

“HUNDREDS OF ACRES OF LAND DESTROYED”

Agriculture Director Jamal Muhammad drew attention to the scale of the destruction in the region. Muhammad said, “The destruction that started on Friday morning in the Jibata al-Khashab forest is not the first. Previously, 50 acres of land in the village of Sahhara and 130 acres in this village had been destroyed. Now, another 110 acres have been destroyed. They have destroyed hundreds of acres of land.”

Stating that some of the trees were 300 to 1000 years old, Muhammad reported that the Israeli army has also seized agricultural lands and that the total loss is close to 700 acres. Stating that they have conveyed the situation to the Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad expressed that they are demanding that the attacks be stopped.
