It was on the terror list: UK's HTS decision

In a statement issued by the UK Home Office and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, it was announced that a decision had been made to remove HTS from the list of proscribed terrorist organizations. It was stated that this step would support the UK's priorities, such as counter-terrorism, migration, and the destruction of chemical weapons.

The statement expressed that the removal of HTS from the list is a response to the significant developments in Syria since the forces led by President Ahmed al-Shara toppled the Assad regime last December. Furthermore, noting that ISIS still poses a significant threat in Syria, it was emphasized that lifting the ban on HTS would encourage the Damascus administration's participation in anti-ISIS efforts and reduce the threat to the UK.

The UK government stated that it supports closer cooperation with Syria to eliminate the chemical weapons program of the ousted Assad regime. Shara's commitment to definitively destroying these weapons was welcomed by the UK.

In April, the UK lifted sanctions on 12 institutions and organizations in Syria, including the ministries of Defense and Interior.
