Italian Foreign Minister Tajani warns of migration crisis risk

Tajani, who attended the Cairo Ministerial Conference held in the Egyptian capital to strengthen humanitarian intervention in Gaza, made assessments to journalists on the sidelines of the event.

Stating that he had the opportunity to hold extensive talks with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib on the occasion of the conference, Tajani said, "Lebanon is already hosting one million Syrian refugees. The risk here is the emergence of a new migration crisis as a result of a civil war that could last for a long time. This crisis could have a direct impact on Lebanon, but it could also affect Europe, just as it did in the other civil war."

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tajani stated that their embassy in Syria is working to ensure that Italians in the country can leave Aleppo with a United Nations (UN) humanitarian aid convoy.

Noting at the conference that peace in the Middle East is one of their priority issues, Tajani said that Italy has sent more than 50 tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through the "Food for Gaza" initiative, which it launched with relevant UN agencies in March.

DEVELOPMENTS IN SYRIA

Clashes between Bashar al-Assad regime forces and anti-regime armed groups began on November 27 in the western countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria.

Advancing rapidly from the western countryside of Aleppo toward the city center on November 28, anti-regime armed groups captured most of the center on November 30.

Having taken the town of Khan Shaykhun on November 30 and established control over the entire Idlib region, the armed groups continue their advance by fighting in Hama province.

In the Operation Dawn of Freedom launched by the Syrian National Army on December 1 against the terrorist organization PKK/YPG in the Aleppo countryside, the town center of Tel Rifaat was liberated from terrorism.

On the other hand, many civilians have lost their lives in airstrikes carried out by Russia and the regime in Idlib and Aleppo under the pretext of intervening against anti-regime groups.
