Italian Prime Minister Meloni discusses the situation in Gaza with US President Biden
It was reported that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and US President Joe Biden discussed a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and humanitarian aid during their bilateral meeting held as part of the G7 Leaders' Summit.
In a written statement from the Prime Minister's Office, it was stated that Meloni and Biden met on the sidelines of the G7 Leaders' Summit, which Italy is hosting in the town of Borgo Egnazia.
The statement noted that Meloni and Biden discussed bilateral relations as well as developments in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine War.
JOINT EFFORTS TO SUPPORT KYIV DISCUSSED
The statement recorded that, in the context of the Russia-Ukraine War and with an eye toward the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington, joint efforts to support Kyiv, including financial assistance, were discussed.
In the statement, which noted that Meloni and Biden evaluated developments in the Middle East, the following was stated: "The meeting also provided an opportunity to reiterate the commitment to reaching a general agreement aimed at ending hostilities in the Gaza conflict, releasing hostages, and strengthening humanitarian support for the civilian population. Furthermore, the importance of restarting the peace process with the goal of a two-state solution was emphasized."
