Jamaica recognizes Palestine as a state
Jamaica has announced that it has officially recognized Palestine as a state. The Barbados government also made the decision to recognize Palestine as a state on April 20.
Jamaican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith stated in a press release that Jamaica continues to advocate for a two-state solution as the only viable option to resolve the long-standing conflict (between Israel and Palestine).
Smith noted that following yesterday's Cabinet meeting, they decided to officially recognize Palestine as a state.
Stating that they continue to support all efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region and ensuring lasting peace, Smith called on the parties to resolve the issue through diplomatic means.
The Barbados government also made the decision to recognize Palestine as a state on April 20.
